Balloon Terracotta Vase
Vume, Volta Region, Ghana
Terracotta
H 22.5 × W 18 cm
Vume, in Ghana’s Volta Region, has been a centre for pottery for over 300 years. The clay is locally abundant, and techniques have been passed through generations of makers—still closely tied to everyday vessels used in homes.
The vase is shaped on a manual wheel using a two-person process: one maker turns the wheel by hand while the other shapes the clay. Wood-fired, it develops a natural terracotta tone with subtle surface variations.
Not watertight — intended for standalone display or for use with dried florals, stems or branches.
